Instead we have people who can't make a dent in raid bosses, and those that can kill them before any boss mechanics can even take place. How do you balance around that, especially come to raid bosses? A better handling of gear escalation would have made balancing solo viability and still keep multiplayer challenging.

People can be doing 10k per shot, while others can do millions. There is this spike in damage output hitting 50 because of gear. I noticed it hitting 50, and I noticed it a long time ago with BL1. Just playing devils advocate here, but isn't this the reason why people call WoW a kiddy grade ez-pz game? People complained about not getting access to end game because the entry barrier was too high? They added an easy mode version so that you don't have to be in an uber raid guild to experience the raid encounters, now WoW is considered cakewalk because people use raid finder as a benchmark for calling it easy.įor me the whole "can't solo" issue comes from the horrible escalation of end game content. I'd be ok with that if I could crit them with a sniper (glass cannon), but I couldn't. A single spear from one of those tribals (non upgraded) took of my entire shield and left me with 2k hp. They gave most humans a helmet making criticals impossible solo, then at the same time gave them high hp and high damage output. They really killed this dlc for me as a sniper. Because of that, bosses are nearly impossible for those without the right gear setups. They try to make it challenging for people who have great gear, but over shoot it because of gear like conference call/bee, baby maker/bee and so forth. The scaling of end game items is what broke end game boss mechanics. I've taken down the dlc raid bosses with cheaper tactics, but the numbers are so badly tuned (hp and boss damage), that normal kill methods aren't fun solo. Even if they didn't scale, the damage output of high level items would have to scale to such a ridiculous value to make the bosses fairly soloable, an extra 10k per shot and 20k shield wouldn't really make the bosses soloable by normal means. Crawmerax scaled to the highest level of a group if I recall correctly. It's one thing to offer co-op, but they're basically forcing it on people now with everything they release. I've put 350hrs into B2 already (450 in the first game) and the drop rate is shit. I've still never killed Hyperius or the other guy (acid pools/worms bastard forget his name) because I don't have strong enough weapons, even though the ones I have are pretty damn strong and I know what tactics to use. But they're essentially keeping people from experiencing something they would otherwise enjoy by making some bad choices. That worked for B1 (going solo), and the base game of B2, but all the DLC has really changed that.Ī challenge is one thing, that's enjoyable. I know there are even a lot of people here on who've complained at times, because they either don't have other people who play, who play at the same time, and, some people just outright don't want to play with others/online. This last DLC is absolutely forcing you to need to play with other people, just like a few of the bosses in the last two DLCs. However, up until recently, it was never forced on you like it is now. It's only "meant" to be played co-op due to it being far more fun. There are bosses in the Pirate DLC that you need at least three people for and that's just not reasonable. It's becoming far too co-op focused, where as with the first game, even the end boss (Crawmerax) could be soloed. The Son of Crawmerax Releasing on April 15th.
